I’m Vexed
On my twitter timeline a former college classmate quotes the bible saying “if a man doesn’t work, he doesn’t eat.” , “meanwhile, the gov’t says ‘if you dont work, here are food stamps.’” and goes on to say how the government undermines the lord.
Now as someone who was raised going to sunday school and attends church now and then I’ve noticed heavy double standards and hippocracies from the pulpit and the pews. We are all human I know, and mistakes come with being that. No one is perfect. But the same bible she uses as a premise to condemn those who don’t work also says ” When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and alien” Leviticus 23:22
Now I’m confident she was trying to spurn those who take advantage of public assistance and make no effort to get off it. But people are struggling and starving in this country and it’s hard out here. College grads can’t find decent work so it must be hella hard for those who weren’t blessed to go to college or receive a higher education. You can’t paint everyone with the same brush. It just makes me sigh deeply and I realize that religion is what’s used to indoctrinate people into not having to think rationally or objectively. Faith and spirituality are great, but religion is what turns people into drones.
That’s all for now.
